Hinnerk Utermann

Hinnerk Utermann (born 1978) is a Berlin-based artist, researcher, architect, and teacher. He completed a PhD in Artistic Research at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 2025. His work, Architectures of Proximity, explores the intersections of architecture, craft, installation, and performance. Until recently He worked as a researcher at Bauhaus University. The project V-Act, aims to activate the industrial heritage of the German Vogtland region using an action research approach. He studied architecture in Weimar and Tokyo and fine arts in Leipzig. Utermann has professional experience as an architect and construction supervisor and has taught architecture, urban and landscape design at Bauhaus University Weimar since 2015, including numerous design-build workshops and summer schools.
