The Nexus of Textile and Sound Performative Relationships between Art, Architecture and Embodied Knowledge
Abstract
The Nexus of Textile and Sound is an interdisciplinary arts-based research project that investigates the performative relationships between textile and sound as spatial practices connecting art, architecture, and embodied knowledge. Rather than treating them as separate or additive media, the project understands both as interwoven material processes that actively produce space through perception, movement, and affect.
Textiles are approached as responsive, membrane-like systems shaped by touch, tension, and bodily interaction, while sound is conceived as an ephemeral, vibrational phenomenon that structures time and space through resonance. Both share principles such as texture, repetition, and layering, which generate multi-sensory spatial experiences.
Through interactive installations, audiences become co-producers of temporary and reversible environments, engaging tactile, auditory, and visual perception simultaneously. The project contributes to artistic research by foregrounding material agency, non-linear perception, and the continuous transformation of space through embodied interaction.
